Daisy Sutton
Daisy Sutton, (1905-1990) Wedderburn, Vic, provided details of some of the Australian tunes in this archive, collected by John Meredith, Peter Ellis & Rob Willis.
"The Wedderburn Oldtimers, particularly Daisy Sutton, Lindsay Holt and their extraordinarily talented pianist Elma Ross, were of immense assistance in providing tunes and in the social history of a real old time dance in the bush." There are some photos of her also. -- Peter Ellis, "The Waltz, The Polka and All Kinds of Dance Music", 2007.
"Daisy played fiddle and was nearly seventy when the band, (The Wedderburn Old Timers), formed. She still loved to play the energetic jigs and reels, her particular party piece was the 'Irish Lilt', a three part jig. Daisy had played around Whela, in the Wedderburn district, since the 1920s and had never been much further that Wedderburn, where she received her violin lessons as a girl." -- Peter Ellis, in "Verandah Music, Roots of Australian Tradition", p42, Ed.
