Harry Schaefer (1876-1954), Forbes, NSW, collected and provided details of some of the Australian tunes in this archive.

"A "short stocky bushmon", Horry was involved in farm work in the Forbes and Parkes area for most of his life ... The variety of instruments played by Harry was truly amazing - fiddles, strohviol, flute, tin whistle, piano, clarinet, accordion, cornet and other brass instruments ore among those mentioned. Harry was also o member of the Forbes Town Bond and some of the dance music in these books is obviously written out for brass players." -- "The music of Harry Schaefer".

He wrote his collected tunes in several exercise books. The Schaefer Manuscripts are published in "The music of Harry Schaefer: tunes from the Schaefer manuscripts", compiled by Rob Willis and Graham McDonald in the National Library of Australia in Canberra, 1996. A copy is available from: Music of Harry Schaefer.
