Bob Ballantyne
Bob Ballantyne, Vic provided details of some of the Australian tunes in this archive.
Bob was born, 1928, in Northumbria, England. He was a whistle player, who lived in central Victoria, and had learnt many tunes from his father, Billy Ballantyne. Bob's whistle was shrill but his playing melodic and his rendition easy to follow. A quite man, genial of nature with a friendly and welcoming smile, he led tunes in the Session Bar at the National Folk Festival for many years and sat with the "Rubber Band" in functions and festivals around central and western Victoria.
Bob Ballantyne recorded 19 tunes on CD; "Bob Ballantyne , Northumbria Down Under", released in 2000.
Bob was a rocket scientist who came to Australia to work on the Blue Streak program run at Woomera in the late 1960s.
