Bill Painter, b.1903, played mouth organ. Bill was recorded as part of the 'Crooked Corner Band', which at that time comprised himself as the senior member, John Warn playing a massive four row button accordion, and his son Peter Painter on tenor banjo. Bill learned many of his tunes from his father, who never played a musical instrument but instead whistled his tunes. Bill's grandparents were born in the Goulburn district of NSW. His great grandparents came from England. -- (adapted from) J Meredith, R Covell, P Brown, Folk Songs of Australia Vol 2, UNSW Press, 1987, p61-5
