The National Library of Australia holds aural recordings of interviews conducted with Les Schultz. He was interviewed by

  • Rob Willis in November 2001, [1], [2], "Les Schulz born in Temora, N.S.W. recalls his family background; the musical interests of his family; dances at Trunglie Hall in the early 20th century; entering the motor trade in 1918 to work for his uncle Albert Schubert; no apprenticeships available in the early years, worked on motor bikes & pushbikes; early motor cars; bush mechanics; start of WWI, national training; location of the family business premises, 84 years in the trade; the Depression didn't affect the business; developments in mechanics in vehicles." Also available online [3]

"Les Schultz of Temora is a descendant of one of the original German settlers in that district, in fact a great-grandson ... Les had on loan a lovely old rosewood 'Mezon Grand Organ' accordion, one of the excellent instruments made in Saxony up to about the mid-twenties ... He learnt many tunes from his father ... Great-grandfather Schultz was from Bavaria and possibly this accounted for most of Les's tunes being either waltzes or schottisches." -- (adapted from) J Meredith, R Covell, P Brown, Folk Songs of Australia Vol 2, UNSW Press, 1987, p249.
