Bill Painter provided details of some of the Australian tunes in this archive, as recorded in the John Meredith Collection, and also collected by Chris Sullivan.
Bill Painter, b.1903, played mouth organ. Bill was recorded as part of the 'Crooked Corner Band', which at that time comprised himself as the senior member, John Warn playing a massive four row button accordion, and his son Peter Painter on tenor banjo. Bill learned many of his tunes from his father, who never played a musical instrument but instead whistled his tunes. Bill's grandparents were born in the Goulburn district of NSW.
