Alan Musgrove (1957-), collected, arranged, and transcribed some of the Australian tunes in this archive.

Alan Musgrove commenced his folk music career in the early 1970s. From 1975 to 1883, he collected sporadically, his interest piqued by an aunt, Doris Merrill, who lived nearby in Russell Vale, just north of Wollongong. In 1984, he relocated to Melbourne with the intention of dedicating himself to his performing career. However, with the encouragement of Rob Willis, he resumed collecting in 1995.

The NLA's Alan Musgrove Collection holds 23 records that include interviews with Tom Walsh, Eileen McCoy, Lola Wright, John McKinnon, John Dengate, Jim Napier, Jack Heagney, and Bill Case.

Alan was interviewed by Rob Willis in September 1995. [1], [2]

"Alan Musgrove is a remarkable Australian. A one off: Folklorist and collector, singer and interpreter of traditional song, acclaimed musician, songwriter, mentor, humorist entertainer, recording artist... Had he been born anywhere else in the world he'd be recognized as a keeper of a significant set of keys to the past, and celebrated for all his many incarnations as a national treasure." - John Broomhall in his review of Alan's CD "Behind The Times" in "Trad and Now".

He compiled the volume: "An Australian Fiddler's Repertory", Vol 1, 2014, available online.
