H:This tune has been misnamed as the "Midnight Waltz". It is in fact "The Mary Jane"
H:"I was present on the occasion of that this recording of Stan was made. I recorded the whole session.
H:What happened was this: Stan had just played the waltz, which you have called "Midnight Waltz".
H:He finished the tune. And while he was taking a breath to go on to another tune, Tate asked ‘what was that one...’.
H:Stan not comprehending the context of the question went on to say the name of the tune he was about to play.
H:He said. "The Midnight Waltz" and then went on the play it. Brad Tate misunderstood the reference and went on to
H:misname the "Mary Jane" as the "Midnight Waltz" in his book "Down and Outback".
H:It is important to correct this misunderstanding because both tunes and variants of them were collected from
H:traditional players." - Dave de Hugard, Feb 2017
